A.1.4 Draft

In thinking about writing our two page paper and making it mesh together in a way that will "flow," I have an idea. What if one of us wrote a page on the STUDENT benefits of collaboration and one of us wrote a page on the TEACHER benefits of collaboration? On our own page, we could hone in on maybe three overall general benefit areas (making three paragraphs) using some of the t-chart examples and personal insights to fit the three paragraphs. For example, if I were to do TEACHERS, I might make my paragraphs fit around the general benefits of collaboration being: growth/development as an educator, teaching support that increases one-on-one student time, and integration into the cross-curricular big picture. I might shorten those to something like personal growth, teaching support, and curricular integration. Something similar could be done with STUDENTS in order to hone in on three general overall benefits.

This is just off the top of my head. Does the concept sound OK? All we would need to do then is write an intro paragraph that sets forth the concept of collaboration being a benefit to both students and educators. We could round up a nice quote of two for that and then generally introduce Dr. M.s teacher testimonials that will be highlighted in the paper.

Last, we wrap-up with a conclusion paragraph that reiterates the overall concept of the benefits of collaboration...another good quote...maybe from Dr. M.s book. (Intro and Chpt1 have several) or from one of the articles. We also need to include the bibliography page which I'll be glad to proof before we send.

I'd be glad to write either the intro or conclusion. We could save that until the end after we've looked over one another's finished pages.

If the concept sounds good, do you have a preference for students or classroom teachers? Intro or conclusion?

If that works for you send me a text (915)328-5426 on what time works for you. generally I can talk after 9 but if you need to we can do it earlier. Plus I want to "meet you" : )

Sounds like a great plan. I had the same general idea. What do you think about adding benefits to administrators? I like that if we have two things we can split them evenly but I think it would be a good idea to add a bit about admin. You can do the intro and teachers, I will do conclusion and students. When we are both done, I think we should add to each others' sections with some reflective thinking. Dr. M told another classmate to have all the pre-writing in the wiki so that she can see the collaboration and dates of when it was written (the history tell the date and time so I don't think we need to write it when we do our paper below). I think it will be hard for both of us to write in here since we might need it at the same time. I'm going to type in word and paste it in the "dinal page" every so often so that it will be open for you to type.

For the student section what do you think of these topics:(please add your input) I always think of the benefits from my perspective as a teacher and I know it benefits students but I haven't really thought of it through "their eyes"
  • more individualized attention and feedback from two teachers (that's similar to yours so not sure if I should write about it also, maybe something short)
  • greater opportunity to delve deeper into subjects discussed in class
  • broad range of resources (books, computers, audio/visual equipment, projectors)
  • increase in grades & TAKS scores due to collaborative lessons

I can write about benefits to admin if we decide to. We need to keep it only two pages so we'll see if we can make it fit.

  • I'd love to chat a bit as well and "meet" you.:) I'd especially love to chat after we've had a chance to write our student/classroom teacher sections if that sounds good to you. Might be a great opportunity to give each other some feedback! Tues or Wed pm would work great for me!Was so great talking with you!
  • I like the ideas you proposed and the student topics sound solid. I'd press on with those. I think that it's ok that the "one on one" idea is represented in both student and classroom teacher areas. Maybe that's part of the point. More "One on One" is better for everyone!

  • I, too, think that we should wait and see about the admin. benefits since I think intro/conclusion and our two topics will easily eat up two pages. I will devote myself to more t-chart comments and writing the first draft tomorrow night if that sounds ok to you.Sounds great by Thursday we should both be done and ready for editing.

  • Pasting our on-going paper into the final draft page from Word sounds good to me. I think we just need to be sure to put a note at the top that says "Updated by _ on date/time" to keep things straight for us both. I did the Word past thing with a partner in Cahill's class and found that as long as I kept an "updated on" note at the top of my Word doc, then I didn't get confused on if I'd saved and posted the right one or not! (Took me awhile to figure out something that helped me. Let me know if you have another idea for keeping the docs straight!) We can look up all the revision history in the history tab of the page we are on. This will let you know exactly when I posted last : )
